Carl JACOB est né en Flandre (Belgique) en 1947. Il peint depuis son plus jeune âge. Malgré quelques années passées à l’«Académie des Beaux Arts» d’Anvers, il s’estime autodidacte et considère son approche de la peinture comme une évolution spontanée. À l’origine ses travaux sont nettement empreints d’une trace de renaissance de l’après-guerre et ce aussi bien au plan spirituel que matérialiste. Avec ces œuvres JACOB a voulu réagir sciemment au pouvoir de certains individus et à l’incompréhension de millions d’autres. En Flandre, il était connu en tant qu’anarchiste modéré, révolté dans ses œuvres, motivé par une passion de justice. Malgré qu’à cette période, il jouissait d’une grande notoriété, il se heurta en permanence à une incompréhension et surtout à une superficialité. Il est fort probable que ceci soit à la base de sa révolte et de sa vie relativement turbulente. Poussé par son amour de toute vie, sa persévérance dans la lutte contre l’injustice afin de « rendre à César ce qui appartient à César », son amour inné de beauté, il décide en 2000 de tourner le dos à son passé. Il s’établit à Callian, en Provence (Sud de la France), où déjà toute sa vie, il est attiré par les couleurs et la lumière. Ce qui rend si différent en tant qu’homme et peintre est le fait que ses œuvres débordent d’une part de romantisme provençal et d’autre part il arrive à refléter cette violente rigueur qui est également présente en Provence. De ce fait, sa façon de pendre et ses compositions riches en couleur, font qu’il se fait remarquer parmi le bon millier de peintres du Sud de la France. Il n’y a donc rien d’étonnant à ce qu’actuellement il vend de nombreuses œuvres en Amérique, au Japon, en Australie et dans toute l’Europe. En ce moment la nature prend une place importante dans ses oeuvres ; elles représentent un retour aux sources, un retour en lui-même, afin d’échapper à la dure et violente réalité journalière. Souvent il puise son inspiration dans l’extrême luminosité du soleil levant et du soleil couchant ; ce qui donne à ses œuvres un petit côté mystique. Il réunit le surréalisme, le réalisme et l’abstrait. JACOB est actuellement classé comme l’un des plus forts coloristes de la Provence. Sa technique est très expressive et il utilise la matière afin de rendre ses œuvres plus proches de la nature. Il refuse de vivre encore plus longtemps dans un monde irréel tel qu’il se présente aujourd’hui. Il abandonne sciemment toute philosophie et donne une place prépondérante à la lumière, au vin, aux couleurs et tout particulièrement à la chaleur qui est propre au Sud.

Carl JACOB was born in Flanders (Belgium) in 1947. He started painting very young. In spite of several years at the « Academy of Arts » in Antwerp, he considers himself to be self taught and his approach to art a spontaneous development. In the beginning his work is definitely stamped with a trace of post-war Renaissance, spiritually as well as materialistic. With these works JACOB wanted to provoke a reaction against the power of certain individuals and the lack of understanding in millions of others. In Flanders he was known as a moderate anarchist, rebellious in his work, motivated by a passion for justice. In spite of the fact that at time he enjoyed great fame, he continuously came up against a lack of understanding and especially a superficiality. It is most probable that this was the reason for his rebellion and his rather turbulent life style. Urged on by his love for all life, his perseverance in a fight against injustice in order to « give back to Ceasar that which belongs to Ceasar », his innate love for beauty, he decides in the year 2000 to turn his back to the past. He settles in Callian, in Provence (in the South of France), where already all his life he has been attracted by the colours and the light. What makes him so different as a man and an artist is the fact that his works overflow on the one hand with provencal romanticism and on the other hand he manages to reflect this violent harsh which is also presenting the Provence. Because of this, his manner of painting and the rich colours he uses, make him stand out amongst the thousands of painters in the south of France. So it is not surprising that at the moment he is selling numerous paintings in America, Japan, Australia and all over Europe. At the moment nature plays a very important part in his paintings. They represent a return to the simple life, to basics in order to escape from the harshness and violent reality of daily life. Often he finds his inspiration in the extreme radiance of the rising and setting sun, which gives his paintings a mystical quality. He brings together surrealism, realism and abstract. JACOB is considered at the moment as one of the finest colourists in Provence. His technique is very expressive and he uses the materials to make his paintings even closer to nature. He refuses to live any longer in an unreal world such as it is today. He purposely forsakes all philosophy and lets the light, the wine, the colours and especially the warmth which is characteristic of the South, take precedence.
